For those of us who have rental property Champaign County we have been able to enjoy a exemption which has saved us $5000 on our assessed value of our properties that exemption is called lease hold exemption. The tax year 2008 will be the last opportunity for us to take advantage $5000 exemption. Starting in 2009 season there will no longer be a lease hold exemption. The reason this exemption is leaving is because it was intended for owners of property that had a 99 year lease. We have enjoyed this exemption of the last six years. If anything changes on investment real estate taxes I will certainly let you know.
